When I was a child, I became aware that our resource base is finite while the population keeps growing which worried me. That is why I am so excited that nowadays widespread awareness is being translated into action. Circular economy might sound abstract, but it is not. Why should we take, make and dispose without applying all the intelligence, innovation and technology we have to reuse it? Products and services can become better, smarter and cheaper by applying circular principles. I’m happy to be part of the circular cities tour which enables me to discover and share what is already realized and what opportunities lie ahead.

I used to loathe the strong northern winds that accompanied me on my daily 22-kilometer commute to high school. Now, when I go back to my hometown in the north of The Netherlands, I strap on my hiking boots, walk a few miles and sing in that same northern wind.
I've come to love the Dutch nature and I know that I need to remind myself every day that it is probably a good idea not to leave it worse than I have found it. My goal during this journey is to try to keep our focus real, human, devoid from emptiness, and practical. I hope that all the examples we gather throughout Europe will be an inspiration to people, preferably without them noticing.

For me, learning about social initiatives and business models that make a positive difference in the world is a personal journey towards sustainable living and working. In the Circular Cities Tour I aim to contribute to more awareness and a sense of possibility in the minds of European- and world-citizens seeking to make a living in synergy with Mother Nature. Sustainable urban development seems to be far developed in Hamburg, and as Nudge ambassador it is an honour to see this happening and to be able to pass it on. During the trip I will pay special attention to initiatives that improve the quality of living while decreasing environmental impact.

Our current economical system is bankrupt and the millennium generation is ready for a greener system. Like me, many people do not know how to play a part in the transformation. That is why we are going to collect circular economy examples during the Nudge Explores Circular Cities Tour. Some of them will be ambitious and aimed at smarter production processes, but there will also be small initiatives that are easy for the individual to adopt. I hope that we can inspire many young Europeans to contribute to a more sustainable world.

I have always been intrigued by the interaction between states and market, especially concerning the transformation to a more sustainable and equal society. Circular economy to me is intuitive and logical. We are smart enough to develop circular supply chains, so why aren’t we doing it? The Circular Cities tour enables us to see initiatives where circular economy works and why it works.

It is a great feeling to use my experience as sustainability consultant to create shared enthusiasm and engagement for circular thinking and living in cities, which is indispensable to keep cities liveable for future generations. The young travellers on this trip -and all young people it will attract- are aware of this fact. This makes them the best ambassadors to spread our message our future generations could hope for. Organising the trip for them and with them is a great privilege, and absolutely refreshing and inspiring.

Nudge Leadership Challenges
Inspiration, energy, future and a better world are words that come into my mind when I work together with the Young Leaders in Sustainability. They have proven to be future leaders with courage, vision and drive. As Project and Communications Manager of the Nudge Leadership Challenges it is my responsibility to create the environment for young professionals in which they can develop themselves in leadership and sustainability. Nudge strongly believes that bottom up change is key and these young professionals are capable to lead the way in bringing possible and durable change to our society. Before, during and after the Circular Cities tour, I will support them with research, networking, PR and communications.
For the Nudge Explores Circular Cities Tour 2015, I make sure everyone hears about the trip and the amazing initiatives the best young leaders in sustainability will visit. We have build this sustainability hub that we will use to share the content, but it is up to me to make sure the message spreads even further.
During the Circular Cities Tour, I will remain in the Nudge headquarters in Overveen, the Netherlands. I personally can't wait for the travellers to be on their way so that I can receive their stories and adventures and share them with the world.

Smart and sustainable solutions to everyday problems excite me and I love how circular thinking connects systems in surprising, but logical ways. However, many solutions do require cultural and behavioral changes. I have a firm belief in the transformative power of new business models, service design and branding. My role at Nudge is focused on design, web development, and business analysis. During the Circular Cities tour, I have the privilege to assist in telling the stories behind the circular initiatives.

As anthropologist and communications specialist I love to learn about the ways that people interact and organise themselves through communications and symbols. People always look for ways to learn new things to improve their lives.
I set up Awareness Initiatives to develop and promote initiatives and projects in the area of new economics, renewable energy and sustainability, CSR. I help to develop brand values and positioning, communication strategies and press support. www.awarenessinitiatives.com
I was first introduced to Nudge during the Nudge Global Leadership Challenge last year. The motivation and passion from the people behind Nudge are really inspiring to me. As a cameraman and editor I will be looking forward to accompany the Nudge team on their Nudge Explores Circular Cities Tour 2015 through Europe. My job is to accompany and film the Best Young Leaders in Sustainability on their trip and let everyone who follows them see what’s going on and what we are trying to accomplish.
Policymaker Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment
My goal during the Circular Cities Tour is to bridge the gap between policy and practice, because a bottom-up approach is essential to realise the transition towards a circular economy. This requires that civil society and public/private actors put circular economy principles into practice and successful initiatives are scaled up across Europe. Exchanging knowledge, sharing ideas and experiences about the circular economy is therefore a personal mission. I hope to gain new insights on best circular practices and how they can be facilitated through better policies and regulations. This will also provide inspiration for the Dutch Presidency of the European Union in 2016, during which circular economy is one of the priorities.
