Off the beaten track
Xinca is no ordinary sneaker, it’s a sport shoe made to last and make a difference. This company started as the dream project of a group of lifetime friends, who were concerned about social and environmental issues in the region, and they were committed to develop a sustainable business – with ecological and ethical practices. They came up with an idea to confect designed footwear made out of recycled materials. Thus consumers can purchase a new pair of recycled shoes instead of brand-new ones.
Once the business plan was ready, funding was required. So they decided to participate in a Reality Show for Entrepreneurs which was airing at the time, they faced a set of challenges and had to prove that this project was worth doing. Xinca succeeded and became the star of the show.
Step by Step
The process may seem quite simple: collecting neglected material, recycling and bring it back into use, nevertheless Xinca has gone out of its way to add value to each step. For instance, it recruits many outcasts to promote social inclusion, and if necessary trains and equips them with the skills required to fulfil the job. Likewise, careful attention is set on the selection and quality of the input from second-hand cloth (much of which comes from factory uniforms and aprons) down to grinded India rubber coming from car tyres. All along the value chain the company works hard on reducing its environmental footprint, making the most out of its resources, whilst producing a valuable alternative item for consumers.
Leaving a footmark
This trendy footwear brand is not only popular among the youth, but also among celebrities. It even has famous local sportsmen and TV stars as their ambassadors. Seems just like everyone wants to get hold of a pair of them.
Furthermore, this enterprise forms part of the B change, a platform for entrepreneurs whose work has positive impact on communities and the environment. And just a couple of months ago, the United Nations distinguished Xinca for its leadership in Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship.
