Caffè in campo, or 'Coffee in the Field' makes circular economy simple and tangible: from coffee grounds to natural fertilizers, the project aims at reconnecting communities in a sustainable manner.
Caffè in campo collects the coffee grounds from coffee houses and restaurants all over Milan and bring it to the countryside where farmers can use it as organic mulch. The concept itself is not new; everyone can easily reuse coffee dregs by scattering them in the backyard gardens to see its nutritional qualities. The innovative aspect is that never before has a company used the principles of circular economy for the reuse of coffee grounds. Caffè in campo believes that nothing is lost, on the contrary, all is transformed. With their support, something that would otherwise end up taking up space in a landfill becomes a precious resource for agriculture.
The winners of the Nudge Leadership Challenge are going on a trip through Europe in the Nudge Explores Circular Cities Tour 2015. They will be in Milan during the World Expo 2015 on May 19. Thanks to Caffè in campo, their coffee grounds will not go to waste when they enjoy the famous Italian Coffee.
