Plastics are bad for the environment, we all know that. One of the things hardly ever thought of though, but also harmful, are the toxic dyes used for the plastics. Vrinda Nair, a very bright M.Tech Biotechnology student from India, decided to do something about it. For her graduation project she is currently developing BioColour, dyes for plastics made from fuits.
BioColour are non harmful dyes for plastics and they help with a better degradation of plastic because it's from a natural source. The dye can be used just as synthetic colours are being used now. And even better, it also works for biodegradable plastics such as corn starch plastic.
Still in the development fase, BioColour can and will hopefully be a great replacement for current synthetic dyes.
