Macedonia is a small country that might not have a lot of money, but what they do have is an abundance of nature and tradition, very closely related to one another. The Wild Herbs Exchange Network (WHEN) is a web page and forum community where people around the world can share information about old herbal remedies from their country, but also a place where people can get information about medicinal herbs and remedies found only in Macedonia.
Macedonian nature is filled with medicinal herbs and teas that besides the obvious health benefits, also stimulates knowledge to be shared across generations, serving as living evidence of Macedonia’s rich culture and history. However, in an age of rapid rural to urban migration those traditional practices are being left behind and forgotten. This knowledge is now kept by older people who live in remote villages around Macedonia where they have very little contact with the rest of the world.
The Wild Herbs Exchange Network has a mission to bring back life and people in old empty villages, by offering online information about these places where medicinal herbs grow. These places today are feeling the pressure from urbanization, and in the race for more money this is not always done sensibly. Which is exactly why WHEN network ultimately strives to encourage the protection of these natural treasure chests.
Of course it is also suppose to remind people that in an age when there is a pill for every ailment, we seem to have forgotten that sometimes all it takes is a cup of tea and a day high up in the mountains.
